Experience
My undergraduate and graduate work has been hands-on and concentrated on earth sciences. My passion is applied science, which I believe gives young students the context necessary to make sense out of the courses that follow. I graduated from the University of Oregon with departmental honors. At the University, I attained my bachelor's degree in Geological Sciences after completing a field study on post-glacial fluvial incision in the New Zealand Alps. I received my master's degree at the Colorado School of Mines, where I studied the variability of water chemistry in many tributaries of the Colorado River as it flows through the Grand Canyon. Having returned to my native Oregon, I am interested in using my experiences and background to help students in chemistry, physics, math, and earth science. I am also good at teaching them how to be successful in general testing and testing for college entrance opportunities. My interests include running, hiking, and playing soccer - almost anything that increases physical activity. I have also participated in long hikes in the Sierra Mountains and in South Lake Tahoe, and I enjoyed a ten-day hike from Yosemite to Bishop Pass over the John Muir Trail. To relax, I enjoy spending time with my lovely wife, our two dogs, and our new baby daughter.
