Experience
I received a 1990 on the SAT. I was in a SAT prep course where the tutor was instrumental in my SAT success. I learned a tremendous amount in that course and I gained great respect for that tutor and tutors in general. I never understood the patience and humility that is required to be an excellent tutor. Since starting college in 2011, I have only taken upper division courses, challenging myself to learn as much as possible and challenge myself academically. I've taken courses extensively in environmental studies and sciences, public policy, history, geology, and more. During the summer of 2012 I was an intern at US Senator Jeff Merkley's Southern Oregon Field Office. It was a great experience that taught me a lot about leadership, communication, and responsibility. During the summer of 2013 I traveled and studied extensively throughout Europe. I studied in Amsterdam for one month learning about Dutch history, culture, and social policy. I've also worked for an on campus environmental newspaper. I was a staff writer, publishing articles on different local and regional environmental issues. I further developed my writing and communication skills during my time with the newspaper.
