Private tutor in Eugene, OR

Education

IB HS Diploma, AA International Relations, BA Folklore and Medieval Studies at University of Oregon, about to start MA in Folklore

Experience

My background: I have spent almost a year as a writing tutor at the University of Oregon, and I have informally tutored friends and proofread their papers since high school. I graduated from the International Baccalaureate program in high school, and I have been in writing-heavy academic programs since elementary school. I am a returning student, so I have experience in business and academic writing. This is my second round of college - I started out as an International Relations student in South Florida, and I am currently a Folklore student with a strong emphasis on ethnographic research. I also was a trivia champion, so I have a fairly broad knowledge base. I write for a quarterly natural foods newsletter as well, so I understand how to include important information while appealing to a diverse audience. Even though I have two jobs and a heavy class load, I have maintained a 4.0 + GPA, so I can give advice on time management! I have just finished the graduate school application process, and I can help you navigate that terrible road! I love teaching and helping people. Our education system does not have enough resources for students, but I can help you advance beyond formulaic essays to true college-level writing. I have experience tutoring native speakers and international students. My understanding of linguistics helps me to troubleshoot difficult areas of English grammar for writers whose first language is not English. My tutoring style is encouraging and nurturing, but I will try to push you to the next level if I can. The fact that you are looking for help says much about your commitment to improvement and learning. Whether you contact me or a different tutor, I hope that your efforts result in self-improvement and great grades! Strengths: English, Intermediate Spanish, analysis, close reading, social and historical contexts, research methods GRE scores: 169 verbal, 154 math
