Mac H.
Private tutor in Eugene, OR
Education
I received my Bachelor of Arts in Music Performance from Loyola University in New Orleans. I also double majored in religious studies. I also have a masters (M.A.) in education from Loyola Marymount University and an SB 2042 Multiple Subject Teaching Credential from the state of California. I received my B.A. in 2003 and my M.A. in 2005.
Experience
I have been a teacher for over ten years and a tutor as well while teaching in Thailand. I have taught grades 4,6, and 7 language arts and social studies in Los Angeles. In addition, I have taught ESL to students in Thailand for the past 5 years who wish to learn English as a second language. I also have a CA teaching credential. I LOVE helping international students feel welcome in the United States and helping them in any way that I can. If you study with me, we won't just learn in a classroom. I believe that creating authentic experiences where you use the language for a specific purpose in "real life" scenarios is very important. Though I live in Eugene, Oregon at this time, soon I will be moving to Corvallis. However, I am happy to teach in both places. I hope to hear from you soon!

Hobbies
I love making tutoring engaging for students with games and a variety of learning activities. This ensures that multiple learning styles are addressed within each session taught. I know that leaning with a new teacher one-on-one can be scary at first so I do everything I can to make you feel comfortable in my class. If you do not understand something I will explain it until it is easy for you to do it by yourself. If we are learning a new skill together I will make sure to give you lots of examples so that you are able to see me "think out loud" through a variety of sample exercises. I try to make learning fun and engaging for my students. I limit one type of activity to fifteen minutes or less. For example, if I am teaching you a skill, my teaching will only last fifteen minutes before we play a review game or do sample exercises or complete an activity. It's important to practice what you learn in a variety of different ways. This activates more centers of your brain and helps you to retain information at a faster pace.
